Sporting News is one of five outlets is used to determine consensus All-Americans along with the American Football Coaches Association, Associated Press, Football Writers Association of America and Walter Camp Foundation.

Murray was named first team according to the AP and FWAA, while Tagovailoa was named first team by Sporting News, the AFCA and Walter Camp.

Murray won the Heisman Trophy, ahead of second-place Tagovailoa, as well as the Davey O’Brien and AP Player of the Year awards. Tagovailoa was named winner of the Maxwell, Sporting News and Walter Camp player of the year. The quarterbacks will meet when No. 1 Alabama takes on No. 4 Oklahoma in the Capital One Orange Bowl on Dec. 29.

To be selected to the consensus team, a player must be named first team on at least two of those five All-American teams. Second teams are used to break ties.
