How Do You Set Up an AirTag?

To set up your AirTag, you’ll need an iPhone or iPad with the most up-to-date software. Remove the wrap around the AirTag and pull out the battery tab.

Next, place the AirTag near your device. You should then see an AirTag pop up. Select Connect and then follow the on-screen directions. During setup, you will name the AirTag and choose an emoji.

How Do I Rename an AirTag?

If you ever need to rename or change the emoji of an AirTag, open the Find My app and select the Items tab. Choose the AirTag you want to change. Then select Rename Item.

How Do You Track an AirTag Location?

To track your AirTag, open the Find My app and select Items. Then choose the AirTag you want to track. If your AirTag is nearby, you have the option to play a sound to help locate it.

With the iPhone 11 or later, you can also use Precision Finding to see specific directions to the AirTag and item. If the AirTag isn’t in range, the Find My network will kick in. Made up of hundreds of millions of Apple devices, it’s an anonymous and encrypted network that can help you locate the AirTag.

How Do I Attach an AirTag to My Item?

Unfortunately, unlike other trackers on the market, the AirTag doesn’t feature any built-in hole for a key ring. So while you can obviously place the AirTag in a bag, you’ll need an accessory for more use cases.

What AirTag Accessories Are Available?

Thankfully, since this is an Apple product, there is a huge number of different accessories available from Apple and third-party manufacturers. The most popular category available is AirTag cases. Those allow you to attach the tracker to a wide variety of items.

What Range Does an AirTag Have?

Thanks to the Find My network, the range of tracking an AirTag is almost unlimited. Many people have been able to track their device around the world thanks to the popularity of Apple devices.

If you’re looking to track down a nearby AirTag, you’ll be able to connect via Bluetooth if you’re closer than 50 feet. As mentioned, if you’re in that range, you can use Precision Tracking with a compatible iPhone. With an older iPhone, within Bluetooth range, you can play a sound on the AirTag to help locate it.

What Can You Track With an AirTag?

Basically, you can track anything you can attach an AirTag to. While that’s often common items like keys or bags, some users have even gone further and are attaching an AirTag to their pet’s collar if their furry friend ever gets lost.

Apple discourages that because the pet would need to be near other Apple devices to be tracked. But while it’s not as foolproof as a dedicated GPS tracker, the AirTag can be a low-cost backup.

How Do You Charge an AirTag?

There’s no need to worry about charging an AirTag. The tracker is powered by a user-replaceable CR2032 cell.

How Long Does the AirTag Battery Last?

With regular use, Apple says that the AirTag battery should last for around a year before it needs to be changed.

How Do You Check an AirTag’s Battery Life

Unfortunately, there is no way to check an AirTag’s battery life. You will only be notified when the battery needs to be replaced. Along with seeing a pop-up notification on your iPhone, when looking at the AirTag information in the Find My app, it will say Low Battery.

How Do You Change the AirTag Battery?

Changing the AirTag battery takes just a few seconds. Make sure to have a new CR2032 coin cell battery available. Those are widely available at many stores and online retailers. Just note, make sure to avoid any cell with a bitterant coating. Apple says those might not work with the AirTag.

You’ll separate the stainless steel and plastic sides of the AirTag to reveal the battery. Pop in the new cell and place the parts back together.

Is the AirTag Waterproof?

An AirTag isn’t waterproof but instead just water resistant. That means it can withstand water splashes but shouldn’t be submerged in water for any amount of time. But the good news is that there are a wide variety of cases than can help make the AirTag completely waterproof.

How Do I Reset an AirTag?

If you ever want to give the AirTag to someone else to use, you will have to reset it. To do that, you will need to head to the Find My app and select the Items tab. Choose the AirTag and scroll down to Remove Item. Follow the instructions on the screen.

If for some reason the AirTag is out of Bluetooth range from your phone when doing that process, you will also have to manually reset the tracker itself by removing the battery four times.

Can I Track an AirTag With My Android Device?

It shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, but you can’t use an Android phone to track an AirTag. Apple’s Tracker Detect app for Android only allows users to scan for a rogue AirTag near you that has been separated from its owner.

How Many AirTags Can I Have?

You can connect a maximum of 16 AirTags to a single Apple ID.
